When it was time to start to think about creating this year’s Valentine’s Day cards, I started to reminisce about our grade school card distribution. That’s where the idea of ‘a hundred hearts’ came from: some of my more caring comrades made sure that they put a Valentine’s card on every desk – so that no one would feel left out.
Anyone who has ever been to the beach has undoubtedly written a message in the sand, only to see the waves come in and wash it away. Kim & John took this photo during a recent trip south and it seemed perfect for that wonderful “Love is patient and kind …” bible passage. This card would also be ideal for newlyweds.
Together. Forever. It’s a super-simple message, yet profound. I wanted to make a card that would speak to ordinary people, which is why I didn’t try to photograph young and perfectly manicured hands peaking out of designer sleeves. Jane & John Doe have been a couple for a while now. Here they are, strolling TOGETHER in the garden, FOREVER in love.
Honey. Pollen. Mead. (I just had to look that word up in the French-English dictionary. In case it’s new to you too, mead is an alcoholic drink made from honey that was drunk in the past.) Add a honey dipper and a fresh baguette (which I ate after the photo session!) and you have the props for this “Sweetie” card. Can you read what I wrote on the labels? The pollen has been baptised “Love Seeds”, the mead is “Love Juice” and the honey label says, “You’re sweeter than Honey”.
